One we always do and love is our advent calendar gifts. We have bought, made, and wrapped our them and they are ready to go. We've already opened one each. This has to be one of my favorite traditions we do. We each get each other twelve gifts and and switch off days opening them. This is a great tradition to start with your family. The calendar gifts do not have to be things, they can be gifts of service, gifts of events to do together, and you can also keep the gifts under a certain amount.
This year is my first time cutting down my Christmas tree and I don't think I can ever go back. I loved it! We went yesterday and this was a big sacrifice on T's part. They usually do not get the tree here until a few days before Christmas and some times they don't even decorate it until the day before Christmas Eve! I just cannot wait that long. I love having it up all month long.
We also make gingerbread houses (or pepperkaker hus in Norsk) with T's parents. They used to do it with him as a child and I love the idea of continuing this tradition. I look forward to it every year.
The Oslo Christmas market is also on our list. Last year T was not here and we could not go together, but this year we will walk hand in hand down the snowy twinkle light lined streets. I am so looking forward to it.
A new tradition I want to start is making Christmas cookies and watching movies with T. I have always done this with my family and some close family friends of ours. And it's always nice to give cookies as gifts.
Walking around looking at Christmas lights is being added to my list this year as well.
And last but not least, this year we are to go to the ballet to see The Nutcracker! This one is definitely going to be a holiday tradition from now on.
What are some of your favorite traditions?
